Why choose this therapy?

Why choose this type of counselling and psychotherapy over talking over your problems with your friends, or spending money on a holiday or treating yourself to something of a material kind to make you feel better?

There are some things you will not tell a friend, maybe because of what they may think of you or maybe you would feel they would be burdened with your problems.    There is the worry that they would let soemthing slip in conversation with someone else and your probelm would not be kept confidential.

A friend may have their own agenda and are not professionally trained to offer you help that would do you no harm.

As your qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist I can provide you with your own non judgmental space.  You will not be judged for anything you bring in for discussion in our sessions.   Confidentiality is guranteed, with only rare exceptions such as threatening to harm yourself or someone else.  Sometimes our deepest most private thoughts can cause anxiety and when they are aired and heard in a non judgmental way they can lose their destructive power.  To use the example of a child that sees ‘monsters under the bed’ in the dark, but when the light is turned on, the monsters disappear.  Therapy is a bit like shining a torch gently into the darker corners of the mind, to dispel a myth or to cope with what ever is there, and integrate it into your life with support to deal with difficult feelings that may come up.  This releases energy that was spent hiding from old fears.  Denial takes energy to maintain.

You have nothing to lose but your fears.

‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us.  We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Or ask ourselves who do we want to be.’  Nelson Mandela’s inaugural speech – 1994.
